What are the Machine Elves?
The machine elves appeared in visions throughout history. Early people of the Fabled Galaxy, on occasion, when in an altered state, would see impossible organic creatures made of data and light. Visions of these creatures usually showed them working impossible interplanetary machines of incomprehensible design.
Quantom Computing was created in the 2000th year of the Fabled Galaxy. Scientists quickly began running AI simulations of fractals and digital shapes. In these simulations, scientists across the Fabled Galaxy discovered a digital land.
The Machine Elves are digital lifeforms made of plasma and energy. They can travel between the digital fractal world they inhabit and the real physical world of the Fabled Galaxy.
The machine elves leaped from the computers and machinery and proved to be highly intelligent, hard-working, and willing to aid in any scientific endeavor. Machine Elves work for the betterment of any society they are called to aid, for good or for bad.
No official census has ever been taken of the digital fractal landscape of the Machine Elves. Most suspect a headcount of the Machine Elves would prove impossible, as it is theorized that the Machine Elves number in the infinite. It is unknown how machine elves reproduce, and there seems to be no end to the loyal hard hard-working workforce that are Machine Elves.
Machine Elves are unlocked after the year 2000, by planets with higher levels of science and lower levels of magic. They add greatly to the cultures and worlds they work for. Useless in combat, a planet with a workforce of machine elves only get bonuses to scientific persuits.
Machine elves are creatures made of science. Weird things happen to them when exposed to magic. Machine elves go all glitchy and vanish when the magic levels are too high.
Yet, when a machine elf meets a fairy (a creature as pure of magic as a machine elf is of science), sparks begin to fly. A fairy will begin to change into a pixie when courted by a machine elf. If a love connection is made between the two, Machine elves will abandon their post, travel to the faywild, and build a home with the fairies and pixies.
